Eileen Grey was an Irish architect and furniture designer. She was born Kathleen Eileen Moray Smith on August 9, 1878, and died on October 31, 1976. She was a leader in the Modern Movement in the building. During her career, she worked with many well-known European artists of the time, such as Kathleen Scott, Adrienne Gorska, Le Corbusier, and Jean Badovici, with whom she had a personal relationship. Her best-known work is the house in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, called E-1027.
Kathleen Eileen Moray Smith was born on August 9, 1878, near Enniscorthy, in the Irish county of Wexford. She was the fifth and last child in a Protestant Anglo-Irish family with five children.
